Using traffic building strategies to build relationships

me + you

If you want people to take you and your blogging more seriously you need to focus less on the potential for income and more on the potential of establishing a relationship.

For example, I often get emails or comments from people, asking if I would like to do a link exchange with them. Before ever making a decision, I visit their site/blog and review their content, purpose and the other links in their blogroll. 9 times out of 10 my answer is no. And its because of a couple of things,

a. the blog/site would not benefit my readers
b. the links in the blogroll are not relative to the site/blog

In these instances the person asking for a link exchange is not looking to establish a relationship, rather they are only interested in benefiting from any traffic that my blog might provide their site/blog.

If you want to do a link exchange, the most productive way to do this SEO strategy is to target blogs that will be beneficial to your current readership and vis versa. This way you can build a relationship with the other blog owner based on similar interest. You would be able to feed off of each other, directing readers to not only the other blog, but to specific articles.

Commenting is another strategy that a lot of people use to drive more traffic. It’s another one that is over used by spammers too. I consider spam anything that is not an attempt to build a relationship. Saying, ‘hey i like your blog, keep up the good work!’ is not worth my time reading. I know that who ever left that comment is just spamming, dropping their links any chance they get.

In order to use comments more effectively and appropriately, we need to look for those articles and blogs that are related to our own interest or themes. Leaving a comment that is specific to the article you have read and letting them know that you have addressed the same issue, then providing a link to your article.

You will begin to see that by doing this you can start to build a relationship with that other author, sharing thoughts and ideas, sharing a readership and ultimately feeding off of each other for better and more creative post ideas.

I have recently connected with an article directory, called AffSphere. I highly recommend that you check it out! Article directories are another great way to get your articles noticed and drive more traffic to your site. But they are also a great way to target a specific audience that you would like to develop a relationship with. This particular directory, AffSphere does some unique things that will help you target a specific readership.

But here again the key is not to just focus on driving more traffic to your site, take advantage of this opportunity to build new relationships, and find new people that you can connect with.

Building relationships is the difference between one time blog visitors and subscribed readers!

The worst thing that we could do when working with people is to just use them. We take from people all the time, using them for the things that they are good at, or the connections they might have. It is the fastest way to destroy any type of a relationship, (taking, using) and we do it all the time. When we build real relationships we are expecting to give and take. To provide our best selves and to receive the support and equal effort from the other party.
